Driver's licenses are classified into Type 1 and Type 2, and those wishing to acquire a driver's license must pass a written test, a course driving test, and a real driving test.

Exchange of foreign license for a Korean license

Exchanging a foreign license for a Korean license is available for those from countries that have signed a mutual agreement with Korea (around 130 countries), and once the authenticity of the license is verified through documents such as confirmation by a foreign embassy in Korea, the applicant will undergo an aptitude test (physical test) and a written test to exchange his/her license for a Korean license.

confirmOnly a full license obtained overseas is valid during the term of its validity, and a provisional license and learner's permit cannot be exchanged for a Korean license.

International driver's license

Those who have obtained an international driver's license overseas may drive in Korea only for the term of its validity
(one year from the date of arrival).
Provided that, the driver will only be allowed to drive the vehicle type specified in the international driver's license.
